DevLog - Week 2


Hi my name is Abby! I am the level and layout designer for this project. My role responsibilities have included so far.

  • Diagraming levels for assets and player experience & flow and gathering reference.
  • Blocking out levels and playtesting that player movement is clear and efficient.
  • Creating modular tillable assets for reusability in the level.
  • Populating the level with 3D assets; adding collision to objects and playtesting these objects.

This week I focused on creating 3d Modular assets to begin filling in the project level. This required modeling, windows, doors, and floors as well as UVing and texturing these objects to be tillable for reuse in the level. I was also tasked this week with populating each floor of our level.

 

3D Modular Assets –

By creating a set of modular assets to fill in the level, less assets need to be made overall. By changing only the textures for the assets the level is easier to fill in while still achieving a look that is varied enough as the player moves up through the floors of our level. 

 

 

 Populating levels –

By moving and arranging items in a pleasing way based on references the player will understand when they move through museum floors and when they are making progress through the levels. As the player moves up floors the ceilings become higher and the floors become brighter. Players also feel motivated to freely explore the level and discover new items to interact with. Storage items, clutter, and exhibits make the level seem real and that it is truly being used as a functional museum.   Populating Assets Floor 1
